Thanks for the accolades. I've still got a few things to keep check on.
Firstly on idle it sounds like a diesel engine, this could be the cylinders being still rough but time will tell or maybe a leaky exhaust - I'll have to check. Secondly the engine drives like it did before the rebuild, its quiet and smooth, but the revs pick up a lot quicker. As before the car pulled at the same rate from 2,000 to 5,000rpm but now there is a kick at 3,500rpm and it goes quicker!
Did some checks today.
Checked oil, and topped up half a litre. Checked coolent, fine. Checked exhaust, fine. Checked timing belt, spot on. I found the reason why it sounded like a diesel, it was down to leaky egr pipe gasket! Now it sounds quiet, and runs like normal. With 150 miles on the clock it seems to be fully run in. The new clutch is much nicer too, instant bite! All done ![]()
